Case Study

Department of Mental Health in Major Metro

Located in one of the most populous counties in the country, this mental health department often struggles to meet the mental healthcare needs of its highest risk residents. To help close this critical gap in care, the department began overhauling many of its programs to incentivize a “do whatever it takes” approach designed to improve patient outcomes.

CLARITY:

Partnering with a local health services provider, Ravel reviewed the department’s provider contracts, budget and staff allocation to identify three distinct strategies that would improve its services and programming for high risk individuals—while also growing reimbursement rates.

IMPACT

After implementing Ravel’s recommendations, this department of health increased federal reimbursement by 3X from the 2017-18 fiscal year to 2018-19. This increase of nearly $11M will allow the department to grow its mental health services and provide better care to those who need it most.
